Lauren’s Questions and My Answers:
What inspired you to start blogging?
I would like to be a journalist one day. For me, blogging is a way to learn about topics I am interested in, to hone my writing skills, and to meet like minded people. 2018 is the year I finally decided to do everything I can to make my dreams come true. Blogging is one step along the way.
What is your passion?
I have a passion for writing and traveling. I love creating well-written content and I love discovering new places. That’s why part of my blog focuses on my travel experiences. Like most idealistic twenty-something year olds, I also like to imagine that I can make the world a better place. I stay up to date with current affairs and enjoy writing opinion pieces focusing on politics and international relations.
What is your dream vacation?
My dream vacation is very similar to what I just experienced on my month long stay in Ireland through Workaway. My dream vacation is long enough that I can do more than just speed walk around a city and tick off sights from a list of things to do. It involves immersing yourself in local life, trying out authentic food, experiencing the real music, art, and traditions of the place you’ve chosen. Often that means venturing off the beaten track.
Favorite blog post you’ve ever written?
As of right now, it is my Third Culture Kid post. I really enjoyed looking back at my life, it was deeply personal. But also, I enjoyed doing the research and learning about what makes us TCKs tick. We are pretty awesome! And humble too…
Who are your favorite bloggers to follow?
Lauren at Bustin Out Beauty – we have a lot in common as we are both fairly new to blogging, even if we don’t necessarily blog about the same things. Her content is engaging, and I love her layout!
I also really enjoy reading soinspo.com. Sophie_Sierra on Twitter. She is not afraid to be vulnerable in her writing, and this really helps people (or me, at least) connect with her experiences.
Whats goal(s) have you set for yourself this year?
In the short term, I am trying to finally get my driver’s license this year! I put it off for ages and now I’m 24 and never learnt how to drive. It’s a pretty essential skill these days, especially if you want to get to more remote areas!
Also, I want to have a more regular schedule for my blog. I haven’t had a very regular schedule for my life lately, so that was a bit of an obstacle, but hopefully this will change now! I want to post more frequently and create engaging content.
I will be starting my Master’s this year, and my goal is to balance what will be a very heavy workload with a part time job – I am self-funding so I will need to do this in order to support myself. I hope it’s at a pub. I really want to learn how to pour a proper pint. Do you think they’ll pay me in beer?
Finally, I had initially set a 30 book reading challenge for myself this year. Lagging behind a little there, but I hope to be able to either meet the challenge, or at least do 25 books. There’s still time!
I’ve already achieved some goals: got accepted onto my dream postgrad programme, stepped out of my comfort zone by spending a month in rural Ireland, visited two new countries (Germany and Ireland), achieved a 8.5/9 on my IELTS, launched this blog… so not too bad!
What is your top advice for bloggers new and old?
I don’t know that I’m qualified to give advice yet seeing as I am very new to this! I would say, don’t doubt yourself! I let my self doubt get in the way of launching this sooner, and I let my self doubt get in the way of writing and posting and creating. But just go for it! You can’t get better at something if you don’t do it. You learn by doing 🙂
What has been your highlight of blogging so far?
For me, it was probably all the comments I got on my very first post. Of course, people showed love to all my other posts too, but that first one made me so happy! It really inspired me to keep going.
Beach or mountains and why?
Difficult to choose one. I’ll say beach right now, because it’s so hot outside I want to be lying on the beach with a Piña Colada, listening to Cardi B or something equally ratchet.
How do you like to relax?
I would need a nice, hot espresso, a comfy couch, and either a really good book or a binge worthy show off of Netflix.
If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?
The ability to eat all the chocolate I want without gaining weight. Why? I think it’s self explanatory.
My Questions for My Nominees:
- What is your favourite part about being a blogger?
- How do you get ideas for your blog posts?
- How do you overcome writer’s block?
- How do you engage with the rest of the blogging community?
- Do you have a mentor? If so, what’s one thing you’ve learned from them that you’d like to pass on.
- Do your friends and family know about your blog?
- If yes to the above, are they supportive? If not, do you have a support network?
- What’s one blogging mistake you made when you first started out?
- What are some goals you hope to achieve this year?
- What do you like to do outside of blogging?
- If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go and why?
I didn’t get to 11 but I did nominate some bloggers who I’ve read recently and enjoyed! There are many more of course 🙂
